This investigation aims to be an analytical aproach to the advertising language shift
towards a new speech in defense of feminism, equality, diversity and empowered women,
what has been named as 'femvertising' by the popular and digital culture. Its purpose is to
review the current situation within the debate between feminisms and mass media, and,
more specifically, between feminisms and advertising, one of the most important mass
media tools that contribute to the perpetration of sexist stereotypes on women's bodies
and the feminine identity.
On this debate, different points of views are crossed within he feminist movement
itself that, over time, has been divided in two hegemonic and opposed positions. Those
positive with the inclusion of feminist discourses in capitalist media products, such as
advertising, and those that criticize the appropriation of the political discourse by
neoliberalism. The firsts, focus their discourse on the inevitable influence of advertising in
the construction of the society, while the latter do not conceive of any political struggle
that takes advantage of - or manifests itself through - the same tools as the oppressive
system.
The case study selected in this paper is the advertising trajectory from 2015 to the
present time of the Spanish brand Multiópticas since it is a paradigmatic example in terms
of advertising evolution towards femvertising in the national territory.
