Board Games have been considered as a cultural asset for over 12000 years. Since their beginning they have evolved notoriously and they are nowadays an important source of fun and entertainment. However a new point of view wanted to be attempted in the present study; the use of board games for something beyond than mere entertainment, concept known as serious games. There has been a large number of research in this matter with this type of games (especially in the field of video games), but this has not been the case with board games.
In order to investigate this idea, a sample of 54 participant was used in this experiment, with different levels of studies and different levels of previous experience in board games. They played to the 8 chosen board games along 4 sessions (Splendor, Sushi go, Ubongo, Pack & Stack, 1, 2, 3 now you see me, Secuenzoos, Dobble y Pick-a-dog), which we thought that they were related with certain cognitive abilities. Further on a series of intelligence questioners was applied (WAIS, PMA, DAT and corsi cubes), to check if there indeed was a correlation between these variables.
Results showed that there is a significant relation between some traits of intelligence and some of the board games that we choose, but on the other hand such thing didn't happen, probably due to extraneous variables underlying the board games characteristics
