This essay is aimed at evaluating the minimal dimension of land which the peasant family unit should own in order to assure its reproduction within historical framework of the final stage of Modern Age. Geographically, this essay refers to the interior region of Catalonia, which showed a considerable process of agrarian colonization in order to attend the cereal deficits of Catalonian littoral during the 18th century. Taking into account that most of peasantry do not possess economically feasible farming, the author analyses peasant strategies for obtaining complementary incomes. These strategies, far from consisting on non-agrarian activities, have to do with agriculture and the exploitation of natural resources.
