The aim of this review is clarify whether there is any parenting style that is more
directly influenced with the suicide ideation or with suicide attempt in teenagers, and whether
there is any parenting style that prevents or protects from the presence of this type of thoughts
or behaviours in children who are teenagers or preteens. For that, we have consulted in
databases as PsycNet, PsycARTICLES, and PubMed. After typing related keywords with the
issue, we found in Psychology, Psychiatric and Medicine Journals, among others, sources that
provide us datas about the possible relation among named variables. The results reflected
indicate that the neglectful and authoritarian parenting styles would act as risk factor, and the
authoritative parenting style would act as protect factor front to suicide ideation in teenagers.
The conclusions show the need to work in parallel with the family and the child, with the
possibility of changing the parenting style, and the child, in this way, will not be alone confront
the problem, and it will be an improvement in family.
